Brother Amati c.1620 (copy) Baroque Viola
This instrument is a reconstitution of a viola made by the Brothers Amati in 1620 set up as a baroque version. The fingerboard and tailpiece are made in flamed maple and the pegs and button ( made by my colleague: Remi Rouleau ) are in pearwood. This is a 409mm (16 inches) viola with a smaller neck than a modern viola. As there is no ebony and the neck and head of this viola is smaller than a modern instrument, its very light: weighting around 450g (one pound).
